What about mounts like horses and stuff??? You can also use one handed weapons and shoot from your mount, so you can use frost shards but not arc of death because aod is 2 handed.

Or you can use two-handed weapon, but the mount remains in its inertia for as long as you use it. And alongside horses, maybe even mount tame chaos serpents too. Neat!

Chaos serpents? I long to ride one of those, or even centaurs. But their bodies would block your view and that would suck. Riding chaos serpents just like D'sparil, hmm that is cool.

Haha! That sounds like a cool feature, but implementing it will require some big effort in programming it :) (I can't say if it could be implemented or not, heh!).

Maybe riding a Death Wyvern or something similar?

Now that I think about it, I remember I modified the ZDoom source to emulate enemies that ride on flying things, you kill the flying enemy and then it spawns the normal walking foe, heh! It really worked out, but for the player to ride things the modifications would require more changes, but it would surely be cool to implement it :).

If somebody wishes to hear my opinion, I suppose it is not that difficult. At a glance, it may need following features to be implemented:

A creature class without it's own AI (otherwise, it may be common creature, but with ability to turn off its own AI).
A Player class should have a pointer to rided creature.
When gamer controls Player it checks whether "horse" pointer points to entity, if it does, than it sends move command to that creature.
Et cetera.

It is possible, in my opinion, to make that rided creature to move automatically, if needed, and even to shoot, as D'Sparil's dragon did.

I guess you can accuse me of gravedigging here, but these are some great ideas. Besides, I think we should stir up some conversation in these sleeping forums to attract more activity.

CW, with my limited knowledge of programming and source-code-modding, I can only assume what you say is true.

So you're saying that when the Heretic battles D'sparil, first only the chaos serpent moves and shoots, and the D'sparil pointer just follows it passively? Aren't the mounted D'sparil sprites treated as one entity and not two on top of each other?

Just raise the height of the player and the view obscurity is gone.

AFAIK there are 2 sprites, but D'Sparil doesn't do anything while sitting upon Serpent.

But what I said this for - I meant we may make both - the "horse" and the rider fight (attack, shoot).

No, it's just a single sprite (SRCR).

Oh. :? Well, I haven't looked into Heretic's code much. I just remembered a flag "bOnMobj" from Entity class:
Code:
bool bOnMobj;   // mobj is resting on top of another mobj

I supposed it is used somehow in this case. But now, when I checked it, I see that I was mistaken. D'Sparil simply change sprites when his dragon is dead.

The way it works is very similar to what I described with the ZDoom source (which can be done normally now).
