Always crashes leaving first hub, with the message

W_GetNumForName: clus1msg not found!

Any ideas, folks? Win2000/TNT2

Often crashes on savegame reload, but I suspect my sound card. Maybe :-)

What a game, tho!!!!!!!

Here is the solution to the 1st prob:

- restore your savegame at the point where you'd exit the 7 portals (1st hub) and go over to Shado Wood (2nd hub)
- pull down the console (with the ~ key) and type in "warp 7" (w/o the quotes), then hit ENTER
- you're now in Shadow Wood and your game goes on, the only thing you've been missing is the story screen between the 2 hubs.

The jHexen engine we used as base engine has some savegame corruption probs, best I can recommend is that you save to different slots alternately.

What was the error message you got? Also, try "WARP 13", that one might also work under certain circumstances.

All cheats not working? Do you play by chance on the highest skill?

Since this part of the engine hasn't been changed between the 1st and 2nd mod, it's not surprising. I'm not 100% sure but I think this bug hunts the underlying jHexen engine itself, and appears only on certain machines as I was never able to reproduce it. It might have something to do with the 1.1 hexen.wad used, I have the original release with the 1.0 wad and use the 1.1 patch from my Deathkings CD, maybe this way the 1.1 wad is not 100% the same as when you buy Hexen nowadays with the 1.1 wad on the CD. Dunno.

Hey, thanks for this help.
The error message is - Error: 'warp' failed

I tried all the "cheats listed on the web page, all got the same error. I guess the cheats are disabled, but I couldn't work out how to re-enable.

The good thing is, I get to practise as a mage, at least untill I finish the first hub.

I had the same problem with being unable to leave the first hub in Korax mod 1.

Odd, eh?

I do play on the highest skill, after a bit of practice, all 3 types in the old days, and again partially with your mod, it's much more fun!

I also have the original 1.0 wad, patched from the 'net. I have never played the Deathkings addon, although after playing this, IF it turns up in a shop, I'll certainly buy it.

I will try desperate measures, and repatch the wad from fresh, you never know!

I've been playing Hexen on skill 5 for the last 3 years myself and dying only when accidentally falling into an abyss or so, but I'm positive Korax Mod can't be won on skill 5, at least not with the Fighter. It might be though that it's possible in Korax Mod II as all 3 player classes became more powerful.

Anyway, on skill 5 the cheats are disabled, it's coded this way in Hexen and we left it so.

As for Deathkings, you can buy it online from CDACCESS, either as a standalone box for $9.95 at http://www.cdaccess.com/html/quick/hexendkpr.htm or as a package together with Hexen and Heretic at http://www.cdaccess.com/html/quick/hexenbunpo.htm

Playing Korax Mod or KMOD2 in Deathkings? Technically, it's possible, no prob. The question is game balance, it was never tested and the whole RPG system of the 2 mods are optimized for the game flow of the original Hexen maps. As there are big tough monsters already at the beginning, you'll advance up the levels faster, OTOH it's a good Q whether you'll survive that far at all, especially with the Fighter. But you're free to try it and share your experiences with us...

A challenge it is, lev5 to the end! I am playing as a mage and a cleric at the moment. I played for a while as the fighter, but it seemed less appealing, without all the new spells the others have.
The mage seems easier, so far, with ranged weapons from the start, and the "whatchacallit?" invulnerability first spell.
Those spells are so good, I LOVE the clerics second one, the little ghosties! Makes me giggle every time!
Are you going to alter the fighter at all, poor little fella seems quite inadequate compared to the others?
Onward and upward!!!!!!!!!!!

OTOH the fighter has other kind of improvements, he profits the most from the attribute system, as in his case all 3 values have an impact on your gameplay. Also, with the new mana-less sword once you get up to high levels and have a lot of Strength you can bash in monster heads with a single stroke w/o using mana - and even do it way faster than in Hexen. Add berserking and you've got an insanely powerful melee combatant...

But I see your point, these changes are less spectacular than new spells, especially the Possession spell.

I didn't yet have the time to play KMOD2 through from beginning to the end with all 3 player classes (am in Castle of Grief with the Mage), so I can't yet say how exactly the new balance is. I've tested with all 3 classes in Korax Mod and the Mage was about as difficult as in Hexen, the Cleric way easier and the Fighter way more difficult. As a result of this, for Korax Mod II we upped the boss monsters somewhat, left the Cleric pretty much the way it was (except for the new spirits spell), added some new spells for the mage to give him more chance (I think the "Horrible Pain" spell will make short work of Korax, it took ages to beat him with the Bloodscourge in Korax Mod), and made the Fighter immensely more powerful than in Korax Mod. That means that in theory the classes should be more balanced now, but it's still a good Q whether it's really true. Gonna see within a couple of weeks or so...
