DEVELOPMENT HISTORY
Chapter 6: KMOD Forever
June 2003 -
by RambOrc
Another roadmap change was called for. This included the release
of SE technology (and some of its artwork) in new Korax Mod
versions. The first step in this direction was the release of
KMOD 2.5 on the second KMOD birthday (June 14, 2003). The main
new feature was the implementation of the damage skins we already
had for Scattered Evil.
At this point though, a basic conflict arose... developing
KMOD on meant throwing away some of its long-established parts
and modifying it to a point where it became something else.
This was not really desired, as we wanted to keep the original
KMOD feeling alive too. A great way to achieve both goals presented
itself and we took that road: some of the new features that
don't change KMOD's look and feel would be implemented into
the old KMOD codebase and released as further 2.x versions.
Parallelly, a greatly reworked KMOD 3.0 would be released, its
gameplay being more similar to that of Scattered Evil. 3.x versions
would also be completely based on the new SE engine, not on
the old KMOD engine.
